Both raised amidst the classical drama of Topanga's Theatricum Botanicum, Marshall found his calling in composition after an early encounter with Beethoven's 5th Symphony. His studies took him to Germany, where he trained at conservatories in Trossingen, Mannheim, and Berlin, performing with esteemed orchestras like the Nationaltheater Mannheim and Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz. His orchestral debut, Uncontrollable Lust, commissioned by Yoel Gamzou, paved the way for works like a cello concerto for Emanuel Graf and Man Making Machine, which premiered at the Beethoven Festival in Bonn.
